Core values of coaching - coaching business

Values, in a conceptual sense, are related to morals and ethics, they are fundamental elements that guide our behavior and our interaction with others. Coaching, like any profession, is based on a set of values that are pillars in the coach's professional practice. These values are crucial, as they set the boundaries between what is socially and morally acceptable in carrying out various actions.

In this guide, we will discuss three of the most important values that should be present in the practice of coaching.

Empathy

Empathy is the ability to put ourselves in the shoes of others in order to understand their experiences from their perspective. When we are empathetic, we not only share the client's vision, but we also feel their emotions and understand the problems they face.

Empathy is essential in the coach's work, as it allows us to identify with the client's problems and develop meaningful human values that enhance our professional relationship. Every coach must understand that his or her work goes beyond giving recommendations, it is about meeting the client's most urgent needs. Only by experiencing what our client feels, we can understand what will truly address their needs and what will not.

Responsibility

Responsibility is one of the most crucial values for any professional who respects his or her work. Being accountable means being sincerely involved in solving our clients' problems. A coach must act as a committed collaborator, even when the formal work is limited to consultation sessions. Accountability for our actions and the recommendations we make should drive us to ensure the effectiveness of our work and to achieve results that meet our clients' needs.

It is important to recognize that we are not always capable of handling all situations, thus, we learn to distinguish between problems that we can effectively address and those that are beyond our competence. By respecting our work and being consistent, we must make responsibility a hallmark that separates us from the competition and is recognized by our clients.

Desire to improve

A coach needs to have the ambition to constantly improve his or her professional skills. Many of the skills that differentiate one good coach from another are not limited to knowledge in their specific field. Creating and managing a coaching business requires a wide range of knowledge in areas such as marketing, communication, psychology and finance, among others.

The client who comes to us does not only bring problems related to a specific area, often, they require a multidisciplinary approach. Therefore, the coach must be in a continuous learning process, both through experience and theoretical knowledge and skills acquired by other professionals.

As the coach expands his training, his recommendations will be more effective and his field of work will expand. The desire to improve should be motivated by the constant need to acquire new knowledge and improve our skills to be more productive and efficient in our work.
